The best dish of 2011? No contest. It was dessert at the incredible restaurant at Il Poggione--one of the top estates in Brunello di Montalcino: chestnut gelato over persimmon puree with shaved black truffles. The wine was the 2006 Banfi Vin Santo and the combination of savory, sweet, sour and earthiness was simply amazing. Definitely a wow and it temporarily changed my life.
