The best dish of 2011? No contest. It was dessert at the incredible restaurant at Il Poggione, one of the top estates in Brunello di Montalcino. Imagine this, if you will: chestnut gelato over persimmon puree with shaved black truffles. The wine paired with this exotic concoction was the 2006 Banfi  Vin Santo. The combination of savory, sweet, sour, and earthiness was simply amazing. Definitely a wow and it temporarily changed my life.
